These private plans are separate from the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace (Healthcare.gov) and may offer different plan designs, provider networks, and premium options.

When Can You Enroll?

Annual Open Enrollment

  • Open Enrollment runs from November 1 through December 15 each year for coverage effective January 1.

Special Enrollment Period (SEP)

  • Outside of Open Enrollment, you may still qualify if you experience a qualifying life event.
  • You may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period if you:
    • Lose employer-sponsored health insurance
    • Lose COBRA, Medicaid, or other qualifying coverage
    • Get married or divorced
    • Have or adopt a child
    • Move to a new area with different health plan options
    • Turn 26 and lose coverage under a parent’s plan
    • Experience another qualifying change in household or coverage status

Most Special Enrollment Periods allow 60 days from the qualifying event to enroll in a new plan.
